Right from the first conversation with the WTW team, it was clear to me that we were a perfect match. We pride ourselves on the impact we can make for unique travel experiences, and were excited by the potential here.
Within The Wild is a family owned and operated business founded by Carl and Kristen Dixon – both superstars in the travel and hospitality world. Carl is one of the most well known and accomplished guides in America, while Kristen is the best chef and authority on Alaskan cuisine. It’s rare that you see such accomplished people so actively involved in the day to day workings of a business like this, and I was grateful to have the opportunity to work so closely with them. It gave us an opportunity to dig deep, in their element, and hear the stories up close.
We had a chance to visit both properties – one accessible by boat only, the other by helicopter only. This made the journey itself a highlight on the trip. But it was the way that Carl and Kristen’s passions weaved into the experiences that really stood out to me. Kristen directed a masterful culinary experience that incorporated wild, local ingredients foraged from nearby. Carl built a guide operation that allowed guests to experience as much Alaskan wilderness their comfort would afford them. We relished every minute of the trip, and looked forward to every meal, interaction, and adventure.

My fondest memory of the trip was the time I got to spend with Kristen and Carl. Despite their celebrity, they were gracious with their time and made sure we clearly understood the brand, and experienced it in its entirety.
Even when we had a few hours to kill before our flight, they invited us to their home in Anchorage for an amazing home cooked meal with their entire family. This is a team that understands and delivers hospitality at a level we rarely get to see, and they do it with grace and authenticity. It’s no wonder they’re so successful.
